Mu Phi Epsilon is an international professional music fraternity. It is co-ed, open to music majors and minors, and combines elements of social, service, and honor societies.
Service to the School
Mu Phi members are leaders in the Creative Arts Community. You can see us at Sneak Preview and Welcome Days, helping new students learn the in's and out's of the music department. We are Greeters at the Sunday Morrison Artist Series concerts, and inaugural members of the CCA Student Leadership Guild.
Service to the Community
In 2008-2009, Mu Phi sent SF State Jazz Students to perform at the Embarcadero Plaza Holiday Celebration. Students also participated in musical fundraising activities for local charities and a Walk-a-thon for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Professional Development
Mu Phi gives students the opportunity to take on leadership roles within the organization and their community. Students learn skills valuable to the developing artist, such as how to book gigs, plan recitals, write business plans, and network. The SFSU chapter hosted the 2008 Pacific 2 District Conference, with collegiate and alumni chapters from all over Central California.
Purpose
"Mu Phi Epsilon has as its purpose the advancement of music in America and throughout the world, the promotion of musicianship and scholarship, loyalty to the Alma Mater, and the development of a true bond of friendship. Mu Phi Epsilon fosters the ideals of service to the school and community through the sharing of one's artistic gifts and abilities."
Eligibility
Election to membership in Mu Phi Epsilon is based upon scholarship, musicianship, and character. You must have at least second-semester Freshman standing, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in music subjects and 2.0 overall.
