David J. Xiques, Associate Professor of Music at San Francisco State University, instructs all levels of Ear Training and Musicianship, is the conductor of the University Chorus, and teaches private voice lessons. He is also a faculty member of the Summer Kodály Certificate Program at New York University in New York City. As a professional singer, he is a member of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus where he also serves as Assistant Chorus Director. Most recently, he prepared the Symphony Chorus in performances of Mozart’s Mass in C Minor for Maestro Ingo Metzmacher, and prepared the North American premier of A Flowering Tree by John Adams, who conducted the performances. Mr. Xiques’ work as a chorus director can be heard in a recording of Printemps on the CD Debussy Rediscovered, Premier Orchestral Recordings, released in 2000 under the Arabesque label. He worked closely with conductor Emil de Cou, music director of the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, in recreating Debussy’s original version of Printemps by reinserting the wordless chorus, Debussy’s original intent. Until this time Printemps has been only heard in an orchestral version.
