The Alexander String Quartet

Alexander String QuartetThe Alexander String Quartet is the Quartet-in-Residence at San Francisco State University. In addition to teaching private lessons to most of our Undergraduate and Graduate string majors, the quartet also works closely with all students interested in Chamber music, coaching student ensembles through the Chamber Music Workshop and Chamber Forum classes.

The Quartet performs many concerts in Knuth Hall each semester, both during the 1:00 Recital Hour and in evening performances. They serve as mentors, through the International Center for the Arts, for a post-graduate level “young professional” Chamber Ensemble. For more on the ICA, including application information for the ASQ Fellowship & International Competition for Emerging Professional String Quartets, please visit http://ica.sfsu.edu/.

With the Student Composers’ Recital, the Alexander Quartet also nurtures the development of our Composition students, working with both composers and ensembles to prepare students’ new works for performance and recording.
